Denver Jewish Day School announces the opening of a full-time Lower Division elementary Hebrew teaching position.

Denver Jewish Day School Background:
Our pluralistic Jewish community day school prepares and inspires Jewish students through an extraordinary secular and Judaic education to live purposefully, act ethically and thrive in the world. Since its founding (with the Lower Division, then Herzl, in 1975, and the Upper Division, then RMHA, in 1979), Denver JDS has aimed to inspire Jewish youth to think critically about the world in which we live and prepare them for the role they will play in affecting it through a challenging curriculum, a pluralistic approach to Judaism and a warm and caring environment steeped in Jewish values. Denver Jewish Day School is the Rocky Mountain region’s only K-12 community Jewish day school, currently with approximately 65 faculty members and 315 students.

Primary Purpose and Objectives:
Denver Jewish Day School Lower Division seeks an innovative, creative, knowledgeable elementary (grades K-5) Hebrew teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This is a full-time position. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Master’s degree preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding teaching skills, have experience in independent schools, be familiar with best practice in teaching Hebrew studies including a proficiency approach, be comfortable employing project based learning and other student-centered approaches into the classroom and possess excellent communication skills with students, parents and colleagues. We are looking for a candidate who has experience with a diverse population of learners, differentiated instruction and future-ready teaching practices. The candidate will be a positive school community member and will enjoy working collaboratively with a team and building positive relationships amongst all constituencies.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification: BA required, MA degree preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Hebrew and experience building curriculum based on standards
Knowledge of future-ready/21st century skills and success in focusing on them in the classroom
Familiarity with best practices for student engagement and classroom management
Experience with the proficiency approach is preferred
Experience and comfort with educational technology preferred
Experience and comfort with project based learning preferred

Experience: At least three years experience as a classroom teacher preferred

Salary and Benefits:
Salary based on education and experience, starting salary range $40k-$46K. This is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits. Denver Jewish Day School offers an excellent benefits package.

Description:
Hebrew teachers in the Lower Division (K-5) work in a team setting with two secular teachers and a Judaic studies teacher (in some grades the same teacher teaches Hebrew and Judaics). Teachers work with administrative support to design and implement curriculum aimed at fostering proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking modern Hebrew and participate in ongoing professional development as offered by the school. Teachers also participate in various aspects of school life including holiday celebrations, class trips and assemblies.
